2010

Hello hello!!

Can you believe it's almost June?! Mardi Gras were awesome, we've had some great coming out stories, and there is a chance that "Dont Ask, Dont Tell" will be repealed. But there's still a LOT to fight for, so make sure you keep up to date with what's going on and keep fighting for your rights.

Personally, I will be collaberating with SameSame (www.samesame.com.au) on a few things coming up - so keep an eye out for them.

I also did some gang vocals on my friends debut EP. It's a mix between powerpop/house music and it's awesome. It's streaming now at www.myspace.com/northie.

My Name 4 Your Name have undergone a name change and are now known as The Initiation. Lots of fun stuff is coming up so head to www.myspace.com/theinitiationmusic for all the goodness.

Finally, I got myself a formspring, so feel free to ask me anything you want! It's at www.formspring.me/gemkm

Until next time,

Road Trip

Hello hello!!

How are we all? It's been a while, too long in fact.

So I took a little road trip recently with one of my friends up the freeway to The Gateway Hotel in Hamilton. Or, to call it by it's nickname, "the G".

I was really stoked on the venue, and could even see live bands playing on that cool stage. People were rad, drinks were cheap enough and the staff were friendly.
The music was pretty good, but the DJ was on a balcony above, and the only way I could see up was by climbing up a ladder. Not the ideal way to make a song request.
Aside from that it was really enjoyable and I'll be looking to head back the next time I have a chance :)

Couple of things happening on Sydney this weekend, including JELLY WRESTLING at qbar for girlthing.
I'll be our west at the Bull & Bush in Baulkham Hills for 'Detroit!' a new monthly party hosted by Vans and Red Bull. Chaingang, Envy Parade and MN4YN will be there, along with DJ Izm from Bliss n Eso and the Red Bull girls! $15 at the door.

And of course Krave is on at The grand in Wyong if you're not up for a trip to Sydney.

So have a good weekend!
Until next time...

Happy Mardi Gra!!

Hello hello!!

Did everyone have a good time at Mardi Gra? It was my first one and it was brilliant! I got to view the parade from the balcony at qBar and it was a great view!
I saw some old friends, made a couple of new ones and got to have a dance with my best friend in the whole world.

Most importantly, I celebrated freedom, love and diversity with people who accepted me for who I am!
I hope your evenings were all as good as mine!

Lastly, if you have any questions or comments, send them over to www.formspring.me/gemkm

Have a good one! Until next time,

2010

Hey everyone!! How is your 2010 going so far? Mines been busy to say the least!!

Mardi Gra is coming up super super soon!! I'll be at the Girlthing parade viewing/afterparty at Spectrum - who's going? Please come say hi if you're there!!!

If you keep up with what's going on in the US right now, you'll know that there is a debate raging about the "Dont Ask, Dont Tell" policy of the US Armed Forces.
There is a strong case for the policy to possibly be repealed. This would be a huge win to thousands of people who have been discharged due to this policy, and we can only hope we see the flow on effects here.

I encourage you to read up on the current trials, and check out the 'courage campaign'.

Lastly, if you have any questions, want to tell me I'm rad, or tell me I should quit - you can do it here: http://www.formspring.me/gemkm

Leave a message!
See you all soon at Mardi Gra!

Until next time,

Remember

I had a moment recently when I questioned myself - my actions, who I was as a person and what I was doing here on earth.

It was a horrific thing to go through mentally, I broke down every notion I held about myself and I'm not sure that I liked what I found.

I think that in the aftermath of 2009, a year that held so much promise, so much turmoil and so much revelation for me, my community and the world I needed to really see what I wanted in my life. I do know this.

Last year lesbian relationships were splashed across the tabloids and lesbians were making their mark in political fronts here and abroad - yet in the same year Iranian citizens faced execution for simply existing as themselves.

I guess what I am saying is this: every minute of our lives is an opportunity. A chance to challenge the powers that be, and to better ourselves and those around us.

Don't ever step down from who you are, or who you are fighting to be. I believe that in 2010 the change and progression will be tangeable, I think you'd be crazy not to want to be part of it.

Question everything.

Until next time,

2009: In review

Hello hello!!

So December is here - and it's a time of finishing up so I thought I would do a little list of thongs that I remember here at Lestbot World.

Early in the year we discovered our friends over at Snatch and Grab at Phoenix - and now we have something to do every Thursday night!!

I came out to my family!!! The most liberating/scary experience of my life!

That whole Lyndsay/Sam thing happened.... Maybe best not to go there.

My local club Krave(come along!) celebrated 1 successful year in it's new home at Wyong.

I became a 'published author' with my article in LOTL magazine(the one with Peaches on the cover), and I became a contributor to the website www.samsame.com.au - which really has everything that's going on in one location!

We find out that people are being executed for committing 'homosexual acts' in countries such as Iran. *Please remember, that you don't have to be a politician to make a stand. Be aware of what is going on around you - you can make a difference.*

All in all, this is a VERY tiny amount of what happpened this year, and there's plenty more unfolding each day.

Until then though, have a super Merry Christmas, and I will see you in 2010!

Love and best wishes,

Gem / Lesbot World
